This forum is not a soapbox for you to broadcast your unhappiness with the company. Try TalkBass or plenty of others where Rick-bashing, some deserved and some undeserved, is more welcome.
Yeah, heaven forbid anyone call Rickenbacker out for the decline in workmanship, QC and lack of customer service.

OP isn't bashing Rickenbacker and you shouldn't be so accusatory.

We also don't need the thread police showing up to squelch a legitimate discussion.

Jason, the more i read your reply the more it annoys me, firstly i am not a Ric basher i have spent too much money on them for that and i have played these instruments for nearly 40 years so you are wrong . If you still think i am a ric basher !!! i have gave out many compliments on here about the basses, but i will not cover up a problem and it is a problem with a brand new instrument, i felt it would be of interest to fellow ric players young and old that there was an issue with the bass, and to me the saddest thing about it all was Rickenbacker does not care if i have an issue as was proven to me by their action. John Hall has my email address, he knows who i am, he is aware of the problem and he couldn't care less .

As someone who posts on both Talkbass and RRF, I've seen both sides of the coin. There are some Ric haters on TB who can see no good in the instrument, and some rabid fanboys on RRF who can see no wrong, both are unrealistic viewpoints. These are mass produced products with inevitable flaws, relatively rare though they may be. There are two kinds of trolls, those who post divisive threads for their own amusement, and those who try to quash legitimate discussions they don't like. I've seen both on TB and RRF, so let's keep it polite and civil. If its not OK to discuss a legitimate QC issue, or any other subject concerning Ric products, then we don't have a forum at all, just a moribund fanboy site.

I guess I'm from a different planet or something, I don't know, but if this was my bass, if I heard the crackling noise, If I opened it up and saw the issue, I'd have said something like "hmm, I bet that's what's causing it", I'd have fixed it, patted myself on the back, chuckled a bit, and moved on. Done.

I guess I must be from a different planet too, because I have $200 guitars and $2000 guitars and neither have ever needed to be fixed with a dremel on the day I bought them. (A fix that voids the warranty.)

If it was mine, I would have taken it back on principal. Let the dealer sort it out with Rickenbacker.

It should certainly be discussed. But saying the same thing post after post is not a discussion.

Yeah,, I'm just tossing out what I'd do. That's not to say its acceptable quality. It just wouldn't be a real big deal to me.

I think I'd be more upset if my government nicked me for a grand just because I didn't buy a domestically produced item. As far as I know, here in the US we don't pay import fees when we buy stuff. At least I haven't.

I have had to pay a tariff on the Laredo I bought in Canada and I think there was some kind of tariff on some stuff I set to a Forumite in Europe. nothing too exorbitant.

There was guy on TB from New Zealand, I think they pay something like $2500 for a stock new 4003. Count your blessings!

It's not nearly that simple. You're referring to the famous VAT: Value Added Tax, which is common in most countries around the world. That's just how they've decided to raise revenue in those countries, to counter the tax revenue lost by the item not being produced in-country and thus stimulating their economy. By the same token: Are you happy you pay state sales tax in the US when you buy a car? Are you happy you pay county/city property tax on owning your house?

Or, a tax just because you have a pool in your back yard?

I have read all your opinions etc, at the end of the day it is my bass and my choice what i do about the issue, if the post is not of interest to Ric players i have no problem not posting about any problems i come across in the future, too old to argue about stupid stuff so i am putting it to bed here, if some of you guys do not see the point of my post that is your problem, I still think Rickenbacker QC is a joke.

Hey geofio; your point is that you are frustrated that you paid a bunch of money for a bass, it had an issue and it doesn't seem like Rickenbacker is the least bit interested. It's a drag, but you managed to fix the problem and feel that in the end it is a good instrument. Many here have experienced similar and worse issues with the company and, like you, have figured out how they want to deal with it. You are not alone. Hopefully the interest shown here, pro, con and otherwise, has helped.

Play On MoFo!

BTW- My favorite swimming pool is in my brother's backyard.
