I tried to edit my post since I moved most of my pics to Imgur, but that doesn't seem to work.
Since a few months I replaced the white switch tip with a proper black one, installed a treble bezel and swapped out the neck hi-gain for a toaster made by the Creamery from the UK.

I believe that the 4000 was routed for a neck pickup anyway and they just didn't fit one.

They were always routed for a neck pickup. When did they start doing so? Not until after the set-neck version was around, I think. You?

Here’s my 79 set neck 4000 which is not routed.

Looking at the gallery here at the RRF there are a couple of examples of 1967 neck thru 4000’s that look factory routed.
None of the neck thru 72’s in the gallery have routs. The first examples of routed set neck 4000’s pop up in 76.
After 76 it looks like there are examples of both routed and not routed.
