Is this one still available? I probably have to get in line, but a 1970 Eggplantglo 4001 21 fretter sounds WONDERFUL to me!!!!
I remember conversations I had on this board with the guy from Portugal about 21 fretters in the early oughts, when I owned that '71 FG 21 fretter in the Rock's Bottom book, I had such plans for that thing!

He certainly hasn't been around here in a long time that I recall.
I wonder if Woody has been in contact with Sergio; Woody and his partner moved to Portugal a couple years ago.
I see that his last post was on 01/17/20.

He wound a couple of pickups for me back in the day.

Yes….it has been a while for me,too, So Here’s a new one!
Since we moved here, I’ve made a 2 hour road trip to see Miguel Falcão perform several times, and discovered a guitar shop in Lisbon to do setups on my basses. I haven’t thought to try to look Sergio up, but there’s this—-one of my neighbors has a late 20s age son named Sergio Silves.

The last name Silves is very widespread here, (their version of Smith, or Jones, I guess), and there’s some sort of Portuguese tradition/law that limits the first names of offspring born to Portuguese origin parents to a specific list.
Hence, there are a LOT of Sergios, Rui, Luis, etc for male names here.

I'm always amazed how much people are willing to pay for that extra fret .
Once you’ve had that high E on the G string, it is kind of addictive.

My GL basses and my V-C have 21 frets, a couple of my Japanese basses even have 2 octave boards, and of course the 4002 I had back in the 90s had the 21st fret.
If the company ever reissued the 4004, adding a 21st fret would be a nice update.

Well, you'd best be getting started looking! You're no Spring rooster.

There was a time when I loved going way up the fingerboard, but these days I haven't done too much of that.

Actually, I don’t have any need for a pickup rewind, so I’m good.

There’s just something inherently special about having the fretboard encompass the same note at the lowest and highest tones.
Not sure that I’ve ever really utilized it in any songs I’ve played, but I just like that it’s there.

There very ending piece on
Fish Out of Water utilizes the 21st fret, so if for nothing else, there ya go!

I still do. In my surf band I have a lead section that starts on the high D. I get above the 12th fret on a couple of other tunes.

The Intro on this song features some high note noodles. (Recorded with the Cheyenne wearing Labella White Copper Tapewounds)
