This is exciting news. Thanks for the heads-up.crawlspacestefan wrote: ↑Thu Nov 17, 2022 1:05 am Looks like we may be welcoming back a long lost model to the standard catalogue before long…

If you were considering this route, you could probably do a lot worse than look into this:

Save yourself a load of cash too, over buying / butchering an new one...
.....not to mention the 2yr+ wait to actually get the instrument...

I wouldn’t mind seeing a factory fretless 4005.

Re: Is it happening? A new 4005?!
Although I found photos of fretless examples of many Rick bass models, I never saw evidence of a factory fretless 4005 (or 4004 for that matter). It wouldn't be that hard to produce, and maybe they did. But "it's not real without photos"!

So cool to see a new 4005! That’s gorgeous and I’ll bet it sounds huge! As if I wasn’t contrarian enough, this is the only Rickenbacker model where I prefer to see the rounded top over the slab. Any Fretlessessss planned? You know, a piezo will fit nicely under that bridge…hmmm

Rickenbackers tend to hold their value more than most other instrument, indeed.lumgimfong wrote: ↑Sat Nov 19, 2022 11:21 pm Usually online sellers of used Rics I have seen price close enough to just spend a little more (or less) and just buy a new item. So the wait is on. Using my 4003 for now.
My idea of used instrument pricing is a lot less than most of the online sales I have seen on reverb/eBay/Facebook/CME, etc.
I’m also usually chicken to buy something sight unseen, though I did get my 4003 new back in 2016 from Dave’s Guitars in Wisconsin for $1550!!!!
