If he can get $5K for a $2K bass, that is fine for current owners looking to sell, but not so good for players (not collectors) looking to buy.

Of course it helps as a seller to have a shill working for you to "help" the other bidders pay more.

For me ... I'd rather have a 4001v63 than a 4001CS ... also I'd rather have a v63 than a c64 ... as a player I think it looks tacky to preform with some other bass player's signature model ...
I totally agree.
Did anyone notice the first bidders Ebay handle?
Yeah! Pretty original, eh?!

I never understand when this happens on ebay...It seems as though people just get sucked up in to some kind of bidding frenzy and pay sometimes 2 or 3 times the amount for something they could probably just wait a bit,or, just look around a little, and find at a much better price...I've seen some pretty regular, find anywhere, everyday basses on there go for way too much ...Chris Clayton had one of these not too long ago,and pushed it out for about $2200.00...I've seen one very recently in mint cond. go for $1900.00...Even though this seller is most definitely a turd,I don't think he can really be blamed as much as the knotheads willing to so blindly bid and pay these ridiculous amounts....

To rich for my blood. I'll play my V63 till it falls to pieces before I'd pay that much. People need to wake up and realize that the V63 is essentially the same bass, and quite a sleeper on the resale market.Image

Scott,

How did your knee surgery go back in December? From that pic of you it looks like they removed both of them!

Yep, but I'm trying to be polite these days, karma being what it is. Personally I'd love to see the auction end at 4999.99.

Just to show what Wayne Daddio is saying: Last year I decided it was time to buy a CS, so I ponied up the 2300 for a mint one over the internet from LA. Two weeks later I found one in my neighborhood in mint condition for 1200. (I bought that one too!) I was kicking myself hard for a while. It would be great to get 5000 for one, but I can't imagine these are worth so much (yet anyway!).

So you have two of them, good investment at the time being.

I think in reality a 4001cs should be worth about $1800 +/-

What's a bass worth?

What someone will pay for it ...

As ever Jeff, as ever....With the CS it,s hard to see how a run of 1000 instruments, which must be as high as any Ric special edition, can be valued so highly when other edition Ric basses have a far lower production numbers. Who wants a LK for future reference......
