Also, John had just one guitar, the 325, until 10 September when he and George got their J160E's at Rushworths. That was probably the point at which he arranged to have the 325 re-finished, as he had another guitar to use during it's absence.

Tim: Excellent point! September 10, 1962 is a special day in Bealtes' history. Their sound would have been very different without the J160E's.

I read that John had the guy that made Burns Guitars in london refinish it....He just wanted black, and thats all it was, George had the Black Gretsch Duo-jet so that might have had a little to do with it..... lucky for you people he didnt pick Pink or baby **** yellow, John was the type that would have done it too, if he knew everyone 35 years later would be setting around debating this...he would have got a real laugh at all these goofs getting **** colored Rickenbackers.

Fatrat: It has been established that Jim Burns did not do the work, but rather, arranged to have the work done through a subcontractor. That this is what happened has been confirmed by Burns Company. This man is believed to be Mr. Derek Adams who is apparently still alive and living in England somewhere. I have been trying to speak with him for quite a while now but as yet no luck.

it would be interesting to track the guy down and see if there was a repair or just that he wanted a black guitar???
the guitar is back natural, so it should be easy to find out if it had any repairs???
why did someone put a white guard on it???
did Lennon do this???

Thanks Dr. I continue to be amazed at the limited amount of information with regard to this question. Fortunately the net has enabled a pooling of many resources. I am hopeful that this question and many others will be answered in our lifetime. If we don't get the answers it won't be because we didn't give it a good go.
