Jeff, I don't like SWR's lower end stuff either especially that LA (lousy amp) series they have. The Goliath cabs with one of their pro series heads sound awesome.

I use a Mesa Boogie 400+ and two cabs; the first is a Carvin single "15 on bottom, then an Alumapro 4x10" with the gold anodized cones for my rig. All my basses sound great with that setup, especially my Ric.

Gallien Kruger RB700 2X10 combo with an added 15" JBL loaded GK bottom. Portability is the key for me. Retractactable handle, built in wheels, tiltback cab, 380 dependable solidstate watts. Add the 15 and it has plenty of stage volume live. Could use a headphone jack for home practice though.

No word yet on the 4004Cii5. I'm trying to be patient and making myself realize that 4 months might possibly be less than half of the entire wait, but I'm still like a little kid at Christmas waiting for it...

I've found SWRs sound like arse with a Ric. Power-wise the heads aren't too bad, but too hifi and sterile for me. My first and only SWR was a WM15...sounded clanky and ick. I'd play through my Ampeg V4 more often but it takes up too much room in my baby Fiats when transporting!

I like GK heads also, nice warm sound for a SS rig, I've only tried the little ones, the old 100 watt and 200 watt heads but they had a nice sound, and nice tone control sections.

I have a GK MB150E that I like a lot and use for light gigs, rehearsals and some recording. It's a great sounding amp with 1X12 speaker and weighs about 27 lbs. I've read that lots of upright players use them, but it works very well with 4 or even 5 string electric.

The amp has lots of EQ and I/O options as well as a headphone jack and speaker on/off switch. I'm an apartment dweller these days so those comes in very handy.

Robj, do you use that amp with your Ric? I heard someone using an MB150S with a Lakland and it sounded great. It cut thru the mix very well.

I own a Butler Era Redhead combo. My Fender sounds great thru it. My Rics don't. Reason? They don't sound like RICs.

Only my Selmer or my V-4B provide an even recognizable Rickenbacker sound.

To use the RIC thru the SWR, I would have to clean up the signal with my SansAmp.

Yes Jack I have used it with all my Ricks, Trace Elliot, a few different Fenders and a Modulus Q5. That amp sounds great with all my basses. I've been very happy with it.
