Amp Opinions ?

Dont get me wrong. I love Ricks and I love them loud. I'd love to have an SVT and 2 8-10 cabs. But,....our drummer has electronic drums and we have a nice sound system. This allows us to enjoy a very low stage volume. A powerful 15" combo sitting in an angled stand with the right bells and whistles would be perfect.

If I had my way I'd have an Alembic F-1X preamp going into a couple of Stewart World 2.1 amps driving four Bag End AF1A-R cabinets. Roadies would of course be mandatory!

Just messing with you, Scott, if you saw the rig I haul to every gig you would understand what I mean! Well, why dont I just post a pic? In the rack, is a Furman power conditioner with light bars and tuner, Alesis Midiverb 3, Alesis 3630 compressor/limiter, and GK 400IIIRB amp, then a 1-15 cabinet and a GK 4-10 cabinet. I just rollllll it into the gigs!

I miss my Acoustic 360. I miss my 20 year old back that was able to lug that amp around too. I was able to fit it into the back seat of my '72 Chevelle, 2 door coupe. I had it down to a science.

Just in case anyone is interested, the all transistor Vox T15, T25 and T60 bass amplifiers are still in production and going strong, at least here in Europe.

For the big gigs I use two 8x10's and one of my early 70's SVTs. Luckily, I'm strong. Skinny, but strong...

Have any of you Ampeg types tried one of their pre-amps, the SVP Pro for example? I'd appreciate your thoughts.

No but there is a ten year old all tube SVT preamp on Ebay right now, it's also got a graph on it, I'd grab it but have the no dough syndrome. It's probably similar to their SVT II preamp. Ampeg types, haha!

I mean that's part of the SVT II head. because SVT's are a pre amp and a power amp in one cab. Two chassis. they made separates for a little while, weren't very successful I guess. I always wanted to buy two power amps for sub woofers for my stereo, haha!

Bob,
The only reason I run it with the 15 on top is that the 4-10 has casters on it and the 15 doesn't. That may change. I believe it would sound better with the 15 on the bottom since the low end projects no matter what, and the 10's would project better if up high.
