I've heard many conflicting stories over the years but I believe the prevalent one is that Adolph was orphaned in Basel, Switzerland, and sent to Columbus to live with his cousin Eddie's family. But I also have some notes, including the geneology page from the family bible that suggests Adolph's father emigrated to the U.S. after Adolph was here, refuting the orphan story.
