Cheap Trick Weird Rick (And not the Nielson variety!)

I've been going through my shots of all of this old stuff, and haven't come across it yet. I have literally thousands of slides of instruments I have sold over the years.

As soon as I find it I'll post it. Maybe someone can scan the shot in Rick's book. I didn't keep a copy.

I've got the book, if I remember correctly the bass is JG, no binding, with a 2-piece pickguard.

Tom Petersson told me he liked that bass a lot, save for the 8-strings-on-4-saddle-bridge.

But he apparently didn't use it on any recordings? He played an Alembic 8-string (Gonna Raise Hell) and had some other 8-string too in the late seventies, but a Rick would have looked much better!

At least he played a 4-string Rick in "Stop This Game".

Here's a pic of Tom with the Alembic, and, if I'm not mistaken, the Rickenbacker 8 is on the floor in this other pic. Robin is holding a nice one as well!

Hi Steve, I saw a video (1978) where Tom played the whole set with the Alembic. Maybe his Hamer was having a new paint or something at that time. Tom also sat the whole set at a roadcase, he had fell of a horse and broken his leg!

www.12stringbass.net has the other 8-string pictured too and I've always wondered about it. It looks like a custom job with Thunderbird pickups. But let's not get too off-topic.

I can remember cruising down The Drag in Austin,Texas when the guy on the radio annnounced that Tom had quit CT, I was crushed.

Don't know if anyone has seen 'em yet, but someone from Rockford is currently selling some old high school yearbooks that contain photos of 3 or the four members of CT, if you'd like to see pics of an amazingly square looking Bun E. Carlos, or Rick N. with a full head of hair.

Glenn, I havent seen the yearbooks, but I have seen pictures of them from the old days, I actually had an original copy of their pre-Cheap Trick LP called Fuse, which featured Tom and Rick. Rick had very long hair on the back cover picture.
Where can I find those yearbooks? Link?

They were posted a few days ago. I'd just search under cheap trick or yearbook. I sent the link to Kenny. RE: Fuse. My long, long time friend and former neighbor, he has an original acitate (sp?) pressing of the Fuse album. His father was a staff engineer at Coumbia studios in Chgo and engineered that record, which of course went no where. Anyway, track down the pics. Brad Carlson with a crew cut, a very young Rick, with a pic of him in his Dad's music store with Vox amps and all.

Glenn, that is a cool story. And Alan, thanks for posting the link! I'm sure that acetate would probably fetch a few bucks on the collector's circuit, the LP certainly did!
