Somebody tested the reserve. It's $3600. I'd pay that for this instrument.

Jeff, check out the 69 at Chicago Music Exchange. Been there for a while at $4995,. Not sure how it compares to your bass.

Truthfully, On a new instrument, I'd rather buy it from a store because of the warranty but, on a bass like yours, I'd rather buy it from a collector like yourself who knows the history rater than a commercial establishment who will make stuff up to move it.

Cool old bass that 59. Too many changes for the purist, but it looks good and at $3.5K quite appealing. Don,t tell me you,d rather pay $4K and have a CS now...When are you going to see another?? The 69 has been at Chicago for a year. There,s a 68 for sale in VG this month from there too. Gary,s Guitars have a 68 too, both in EX condition...No prices given. Jeff, throw an extra string on the 68 and put it on the bay!!...more strings means more money..right?? :-} O.K... just put it up as is...I,d be interested to see how much it would fetch. A similar F/G 68 with shoes went to Japan (where most go..) last year for $4.8K. The 68 M/G on E bay that had been totally changed out and had been repaired, fetched over 3K last too if I remember right. Anyone? That went to Japan too I think. On that basis yours should fetch at least between $4 to 5K Jeff...tempted??

You know ... I really prefer the new rics ... they have better necks, less fretware, the finish is in better shape, the binding hasn't yellowed, the pickups sound better, less rust and tarnish ... the main reason I keep my old '68 is because it is going up in value ... I really prefer a ric 1986 or later ...

I would never buy a 50's or 60's 4000 ric ... especially one with that misshapped pickguard ...

I've seen other '50's 4000's and the pickguard shape is correct.

I think Jeff means, misshaped compared with the modern pickguard.

Yep ... that is the correct pickguard for the 50's ... but it looks like it was designed by Flash Gordon and it came right from a B scifi movie ... "Invasion of the ugly pickguards" ...

I saw that bass a few months back on gbase. It sold for $2400. I called to buy it about an hour too late. The orginal tailpiece and cover are missing. There is a route for a front pickup under the guard and it is refined...... I still like it though.

Marc, what happened? I thought you were going all the way on that one, and having known the reserve, I thought you had it in the bag! Did you give up on it?
