Here in San Francisco there is a store that had both "c" models, and 5 4003's. Of course I played them all! I loved the feel of the "C" series, and if I had the cash I would have bought it, but the 4003 felt and sounded great too. And honestly, I felt the "C" did not feel $1000 better. Now if money were no option I would have walked out with 3 basses, and a really nice 12 string I saw there! But...

I found out that the sound I wanted was mostly from the vintage PU in the neck position.

So I bought a new 4003, and a vintage PU, and gave it to my luthier so he could make a "c" style pickguard with the 1/2" spacing (it also looks cooler I think, with the pickguard being big enough to meet the treble PU surround),

I had a 4001CS way back in 92-93 and had the horseshoe replaced with the understring PU and I loved the sound. I am pretty much going to have a similar sound with my 4003.

Or is it now a 4003c? Or 4003v? Hmmm....

Hey John,

Where abouts in San Francisco is this shop? I will be there in another week or so on a business trip-might as well look at RICs!

It's a place called "rocker guitars". It's at 1350 Howard St.

Nice guys, and they have some nice stuff. When I was there 2 weeks ago they had the 2 'c' basses, 4 or 5 4003's, 3 12 strings, and some 6 strings.

I was stoked!
I havent been back because I must admit, I get bummed that I can't buy a bunch of guitars!

The 'C' models are one of each, one is the c64s sanded one, and one is the c64 fireglo.

The neck on the C64s feels pretty amazing!

ahhh, don't call it "Frisco".

I was repremanded for that infraction once.

Don't give a d_mn but my 2 cents...

Oops, sorry, didn't mean to offend. Too many seventies cop shows I think (or something like that; I actually can't remember the first time I heard it called that. Many many years ago!). Apologies to anybody who does give a d_mn! Anyway, I'm a foreigner (UK), that's my excuse Image
