Since starting this thread back on April 14th, and then not posting here forever...I thought I would add to it, maybe to conclude or continue, with a recent pic of my family of 4000's (series that is...) How I love them all.

Landon,
Nice basses, what year is your 4000, and how do you like it? Did it come original with the cutout treble pickup ring? Why did you replace the bridge?

That 5-string sure would look good with my V63

I think the 4001CS would make a nice 5 string as well...

OK Jeff, would you 5 a 4001CS?!

Bob, The 4000 was made in 1975, and it came with the badass bridge..I did not replace it. A previous owner did that. I am not the original owner. I made the change to a modern pickup surround because the old one was a little rusty and a new one (with the cutout) works better for heavy playing and slap. I kept the original for obvious reasons... I may try to replace the bridge with a stock brigde in the future. But it was badly routed for the badass, so I may just leave it. I am glad I got it, though, even if it is in "relic" condition. It plays like butter... but could use a fret dressing.
To Jeff's comments- I don't have room for any more basses, but I would if I could. It would be nice to have one of each model. I never liked the 3001 much, ugly.. And a 4005 is out of the question....Too rare, too expensive..

No ... I would not turn a 4001CS into a five string ... v63 maybe ..4003 ... yes ... 4004 already done it ... 2030 already done it ... 60's or 70's 4001 ... no ...
Landon ... you know I was joking about adding basses ... although a 4003s8 is a nice addition for any collector/player ...
Someday I want to get a 4003s8 and a 4002 ....

I know you were joking, but it would be nice to have a whole set!!!! (: I do wish the 4003/8 was still made, just in case I could get one.....Joking aside, I did try a 3001 once....It was ok, but It had this horrible fecal brownglo finish..And I never liked the style. Rickenbacker should steer clear of the Fender wanna-be crowd. I never liked the 3001/2030/2050 style Ricks anyway...

hear, hear!
Never did care for that odd (to me) shape of the 3000 series.
Would rather spend it on a 4002 like Jeff. Missed one a while ago, little beat up but the price was fairly reasonable...

I agree with Landon, I never much cared for the 3000 series, reminded me of a canoe paddle or a mutant Fender. Speaking of fecalglo, the 4000 blue-fecalburst I bought is almost ready, I'm going to spray it sometime next week. Like Ric, the color will be revealed at a later date.

Dedgoat, so you're the one that bought that? I remember laughing hysterically when someone posted the link to the auction with the comment that it looked like "fecal burst in blue toilet water!" Would love to see the before-and-after pics.... Anything you do to it has got to be an improvement, LOL!

The seller wasn't too impressed by the forums comments however, never got any feedback and there was a little note that mentioned "fecal burst" sad that people got so bent over trival issues. The seller neglected to mention that the fretboard was separating from the neck from an incorrect truss rod adjustment, but I had all the little problems repaired and it should be sporting the new finish in about a month. It's going to be a autumn-harvest type color as a hint.

Funny how sellers forget minor details like that.
Will it be Pumpkin-burst?

I knew somebody was gonna say that. Um, no.
