Yeah, Peter--I was playing it last night, experimenting. The final buzzy slide before the octave "ping" just doesn't cut it on my Rick, even compressed. That tells me "different scale length". I can get a close approximation of the rest of the sound. HEAVY compression. My Fender does get closer, but I don't have a '61 Strat in the house to nail it perfectly.

Just an observation but it is funny how so much of the time all Beatles songs are associated with Rics, when after '65 they were seldom used by them anymore. Seems every album from Rubber Soul through Abbey Road saw John and George using different guitars, from Fenders, Epiphone, Gibson, Ramirez, Gretsch, Framus, Martin etc. But one thing seems to be predominant with John, he used the Gibson 160 off and on through nearly every album...Paul was consistent as well with the Hofner or the Ric

Paul used the Ric much more than the Hofner after Rubber Sole, so he went the other way.

....I dont think its a gretsch on "Words Of love"......I think thats one of those "We'll never really know" sort of things
