"D'Addarrio Chromes-Great tone, very smooth, tension is pretty high"

I use Chromes in a custom light guage of 40-55-75-95. Very low tension, similar to TIs but better balanced.

Yes, Jeff, I second the motion on the D'Addario Chromes.

Never liked other D's much but bit the bullet and put a 95 set on my '97 4003. I like them very much; slightly tighter than the TIs on my '51 P-Bass RI. I like them muchly.

I use the D'Addario Chromes too. 45-65-80-100. I like them a lot. Tension is about medium I'd say. They work great on my Ricks,as well as my Jazz Bass. No problems at all.

Jps, I have the same gauge lights on my 60,s basses. Good strings that are far lower in tension and therefore far safer that most, especially for the older basses.

Andrew: is the sublimely beautiful white ric you have a 4001-V63, too?

Also is it a refinish? I can't find a bass like it anywhere!

She's arrived ... whooo hooo !!!

Needs a new set of strings, and action is a little low (massive fret buzz) other than that she's in the condition described in the ad.

There's some minor cracking of the fretbaord varnish up at the high end right beside the frets, which I'll evenutally get refinished. So I'd be interested in knowing who's good at finishing a neck, and possibly re-fretting with Nickel Silver Banjo frets.

Question : The nut on this is white looks like very very dense plastic, is this normal for a v63.

Hey Chris, thanks for the information, I wasn't expecting white, my 4003 has a black, and what looks like Aluminium (certianly metal) nut.

She was delivered to me here at work, so I'm itching to get home and get her tuned and plugged in. The folks at Hoboken did a great job of packing her and she arrived in perfect shape.

She's here at last !!!
Sounds and plays wonderfully, even with the flats that are currently on her.
