This should (unfortunately) end your search for a used PotatoHead 8 string...(from Entwistle's gear web site...)
1973 white Rickenbacker 4001 prototype 8-string bass
Used in studio only: Success Story, 1975.
Serial no. MH2553.
Reverse (low string/high string) setup.
Wavy headstock.
One of two; other one bought by Chris Squire.

Ya know I thought about that but hey He's got so many, many, more timeworthy things to do than talk to us bunch of musical bottomfeeders!
So Chris! Wha-da-ya think? Would you consider selling me your potato head? It would save me a lot of trouble trying to make one.
You can answer in a private email if you like!

Well, you know he puts his pants on one leg at a time just like we do. And I think we are all brilliant in our own way, be it bass playing, technical know how, or overall silly nonsense. I think this forum would be a relaxing place for Chris. He could learn a few things from us, and vice versa.
Also, I think that as a group we are classy enough not to bombard him with the nonsense that he probably tries to avoid.

Yeah Scott it would be a shocker wouldn't it! But I can't imagine there is anything he needs or wants to know any more. He's "Been There" & "Done That" And most likly more than once. He'd be a great teacher though.
Email sites are so dam awkward? It is not the best medium to communicate through. Hell I wouldn't talk to you guy's on this site either but I just so happens I don't know a Dam thing so here I am!
I think I would honestly like to ask him for a nice photo of that potato head with him playing it! Go right on the music room wall. And I do need a good photo of it to make this conversion out of a 4003. Other than that I'd ask if he wants to come over and Jam!

I dont know, you may be surprised. He may have just found a bass he liked, and stuck with it. Just because he has played that particular Rick all his career dosent mean he's an expert on Ricks in general. I dont really know where I'm going with this, but I've ran into similar situations like this in my life, and it seems like people tend to take obvious things for granted.
I think Chris Squire is just an ordinary guy that goes with things that work for him.
Besides that, I have just as much respect for my fellow forum members as I have for celebrities such as Chris Squire.
For that matter, who knows how many forum members are possibly famous people incognito?

I agree with Scott.
I am constantly surprised and amazed at the sheer depth of the collective knowledge that's displayed here at the Forums.
I can't imagine anyone who likes or has a love (well maybe an obsession) with Rickenbacker not learning something at this site.
I've had a love affair with Rickenbacker since my teens, and thought I knew a fair bit about them, my knowledge pales to almost trivial compared to some of you guys.

Yeah I think I am alright, four guitar strings and a set of light bass strings ought to work. Perhaps a little tweek of the rods? I will soon find out.
Going to go and find that John Entwistle site and see what this thing is supposed to look like. Never did find a shot of Chris's ? I will see what the acutal conditon is when I get it perhaps I will only need to refinish the headstock area? gonna be fun!
