Prototype = "A model suitable for evaluation of design, performance, and production potential."

Prototype, experiment, whatever....

It's the only one I'VE seen, and it's been around since 1986....

Regardless, it IS special and , well, Shadowy....

Nope...my "need" was for an older 4005FG.

THIS is strictly a WANT type situation!!

But the sharks are circling as we speak.... Image

Why does Chris get all the love?

Yes Chris, I agree, you must (please!) control yourself Image

I promise I'll take good care of it.....

This bass needs to be owned by a forum member. For quality control purposes if nothing else.

Very nice of Mr. Hall to shed definitive light on it for us.

I agree that it was nice of Mr. Hall to shed some light BUT he only confirmed what I (and likely many others suspected) so now there will be even more intense bidding......DRATS!!!!!

I will only bid if the forum bidders are getting dusted at the end.... Image

It'll probably go for over $2000.....IMHO

I figured it would go over $2K.....I'm just not sure how much over $2K I am willing to go for it. I'll have to decide soon then just stay out of it until the end.

Jim, the "dumpster" bass was one that JH put together from "spare parts" for his own amusement, it got its name because it was from parts "pulled out of the dumpster". I dont think that body is garbage in any way. So for fun, they did a german carved top, checkered binding, and a wood pickguard. I think JH plays it occasionally. That's what I remember about it...

Thanks Steve, I appreciate the update. I wonder what it would fetch if JH ever decided to auction it for charity on Ebay .... I'd sell a kidney !!!

Apparently a body was being sanded and some bad grain was revealed on the top. The maple was otherwise very beautiful but the flaw made it unsellable. The foreman took it to show JH before tossing it. It was decided to save it as a one-off for JH. The body was fitted with a bubinga top that is carved with german shoulders. It features a bubinga pickguard and TRC as well. I think JH said that one of the shop guys made the TRC for him as a surprise.
