Aside from my '73 4001 that was abused before I got it the only issue I ever had with any of my Rics (new or used) was on my Midnight Blue '97 4003. The inlays cracked about a year after I got it. Ric customer service was excellent, turnaround time was great and it came back to me as good as new....I think they touched up any imperfection that could be found.
Even with my one warranty issue I have no complaints. There was no attempt to blame me and things were made more than right quickly....what more could you ask for.

I would think that it is still considered new until it has been sold...even if it takes two years. An automobile can sit on a lot for months, but it is still new until it is sold and registered.
Besides, you may have a low serial number which may help its resale value.
