Ron, there is no VG in Vintage guitar, all of them are listed only as being in all original excellent condition. They only have a 68 mapleglo, low is $2500 for that w/case. I wouldn't take their prices as gospel though they have the Blackstar as being worth only $1000. But if I were going to shell out $4000 on a bass it would be all original, I wouldn't care what it looked like either within reason, to me being all original is more important. I think the original horseshoe is the most interesting part of an old Ric.

Yeah Andrew, I see what you mean. It's all these guys on this forum that got me and I'm sure many others excited to own these beauties! I pulled the trigger on this 68 today and will receive it early next week! I was able to get some compromise in price that I am comfortable with. I'm excited to own my first Rick bass and to feel like a more valued member of this forum.

I was watching that '72 last night and I was refreshing every couple of seconds that last minute of the auction and I was laughing .....each time I refreshed, the price had jumped up.....

I waited until the last minute to place a bid with a high proxy of $2000, it came back and said you must bid more than $2000. At that point I just laughed and let them have it.

Yes, the way these early 70's basses have shot up in value is pretty amazing....It appears that many vintage Rickenbackers are seeing a substantial increase, but I think this catagory has seen the biggest rise in price from what I've observed, with 60's round-top 12-strings not far behind.

I don't know though, that was a nice fireglo 72, looked above average to me, although the pictures were fuzzy which can hide a lot of sins.

Well I did it!!! Drove up to Seattle and gave this baby a nice drive home! She's my new best friend. Thanks everyone for your input.

Well done, Ron! And that's your FIRST Rick bass? U lucky dawg. Where do you people find this stuff? The only place I've seen something like that is at the CME with a price tag from $4999.00 to $8000.00!

Yeah, where do you people find this stuff? I'm still hopeful regarding finding a near mint late '60s/early '70s 4001 locally. Maybe tomorrow. More news soon...
