Hey Guys!
Thought some of you might want an update. My lucky snag on ebay came through despite a couple offers from other ebayers for more money:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=3779168165&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT
The seller is a nice guy that knows he goofed with the BIN. I'm a nice guy too, so I'm going to send him a little extra cash as a token reward for not "giving in" to the other offers.
He did an outstanding job packing the guitar and it made the journey from Dallas to Chicago with no damage. At my request he left the tension on the strings and put an old T-shirt between the strings and the guitar's body. He got a box that was at least 3 inches bigger than the guitar's case on ALL sides and filled in the extra space very tightly with about a week's worth of his local newspaper. It would have been tough for the FedEx or UPS goons(I used to be one for UPS so I can say that!) to damage it. I'm pretty sure I could have thrown it down my concrete stairs and then kicked it around my yard for 20 minutes without causing any harm.(Well, no harm to the guitar that is...my foot and knee would be a different story!) I know I've learned from his example.
I don't have any pix, but the ones that were on ebay are pretty good. The Ruby finish is almost perfect. There are no chips, dings, buckle rash, dents, and no finish checking. It has a few light shirt button-type scuffs on it but I'm sure a lot of them will come out with a good polishing. She could use new strings, a set-up and some cleaning.
She sounds ultra-sweet. I don't know what it is about these 4003S/5's but they sound HUGE! I don't know if its the 5 pole bridge pickup(that from what I understand is wound a little hotter) or just the low notes on the B-string but...Wow!

Play what you love, love what you play!
Whew!! Glad it turned out ok for you Jeff....it didn't start out sounding too promising lol!! It's cool that you sent him a little extra, as "incentive" to complete the deal.....gotta watch those "backdoor" guys.....they are a reality and part of ebaying....unfortunately
