Peter--the way you say goosebumps---that is exactly what happens during these songs. Imagine seeing the Beatles and being part of an audience. It probably wouldn't matter if you couldn't hear anything; it would have been just as exciting with the visuals alone.
Another thought just came to me. Also during ISHST, and the whole wave of sound thing---when the verse "held her hand in mine." When the elongated word mine stretched up the octave and this whole wave of sound thing started and took full effect, the goosebumps started. After hearing the delayed singing from all angles, I looked around in both directions and across, and people near me were doing the same thing, all having realized this wonderfully unique sound they were hearing. That feeling is worth all the tickets I've paid for to see him play.
You will probably appreciate the next recollection. I've seen McCartney 3 times in Toronto, in 89, circa 93, and 2003. The last two concerts he played Mull of Kintyre, with the full bagpipe band marching out to form a semi-circle in behind and around him as he played center stage with his acoustic guitar. The 2003 show was the only time of the entire tour that he played it. The reason is Toronto has a large Scotch population. I, being of Scottish descent, cannot describe the feeling of seeing him play that song.
I remember the 2003 show. While we were sitting in our seats waiting for the show to start, a woman directly behind us said she had heard bagpipes practicing. Nobody could believe it, but we could only hope. People around us were thinking she was crazy. About 2/3 through the concert, McCartney comes to center stage with his acoustic, and you just knew it wasn't for Yesterday, as that is usually right at the end, or part of the encore. The first chords ring out, and the whole crowd was in heaven for 4 minutes. I've never had chills like that.
After the show, we were walking to the cars, and low and behold, walking alongside us is a lone piper, in full regalia, walking to his car. We quickly gave our congrats and he was very appreciative, as it was probably the highlight of his life. It must have been, as it was one for everybody in the crowd, and he actually played the song.
Macca/Superbowl update.....
You know when I say it was a blur (the show), you know how intense you get over some things and when the time comes and the event is actually in front of you...you're overwhelmed. I recall seeing A Hard Days Night when it came out...same effect..I don't think it was until I saw it again ,some time later, did I even get what the movie was about.

Peter and Chris...one other note on the Beatles in Dallas...funny how you remember some things and totally lose others. The show was late starting because of a bomb threat I think (I'm a near life long Texan, but the south in 1964, you know)..
