Got one on order...gearing up for the long wait.
PM Blues has a slightly used one for sale (unadvertised on their website). Paul M. told me that he sold one to a customer, then he bought it back from him about a year later in mint condition. I saw it at the Philly guitar show (almost bought it until I found my Desert Gold 4003, which I'd been looking for)...I thought it was new!
Here's a pic of it, if anyone is interested...

I've now been the proud owner of a C64S for 5 days and counting (courtesy of 'Lowendbob' Scott), and I couldn't be happier!
The last 4003 I tried at a retail outlet was not the "Rick-xperience" I remembered from my old '77 MG 4001. Granted, it had been 16 or 17 years since I had last held my Rick, but the newer models' neck didn't feel quite right... too 'hefty' for lack of a better term.
Ah, but the neck (and the finish ON the neck) of the C64S is more like it! Nice, slim profile combined with that fast satin finish! Hmmmm-MMM!
To anyone out there who's even had a passing thought about owning one... get one. I know I'll be tweaking this and adjusting that on this one for a good while, trying to "perfect" it for me and my taste and technique... (with or without shoes... painting the back of the guard white so as to eliminate that 'see-through' effect... etc, etc...) but as far as Rickenbacker basses go, this one's the one for me!

Anyone have an idea of when the 4001C64S will be in production and ready for delivery?

I've already played one that was at Bass Emporium a few months back.

Kenn,
I'm very interested in PM Blues unadvertised C64S. How do you get in-touch with Paul M. to see if it's still for sale? Thanks!

David,
You can email Paul Moskwa at
[email protected]. He'll give you the lowdown on the bass.

This may be the one he has on Ebay right now. I'm the high bidder and hope to stay that way..
There also should be some shipped to stores in the near future. I'd bet the majority if not almost all are spoken for.

That IS it, Marc. I have a pic that I took of it at the Philly Guitar Show...same wide grain.
It IS a beauty...here's the photo I took of it.

Sorry for double-posting the picture. Just wanted to make sure Marc saw it.

Does it have finish on the fingerboard?

John,
Satin sealer on the fingerboard.
Same as the back of the neck, smooth and earthy.

I've withdrawn my bid on the PM Blues bass. I had ordered one from Rhoads Music and wasn't sure if he had placed the order with Rickenbacker. Now that I have confirmation of that, I will honor my deal with Jim.

Just got in from my first FULL gig with the C64S and everyone commented on how thick, present and clear the bass FELT and sounded! Those comments that I've read on occasion about how Rics have no 'bottom' are way off the mark! This instrument felt like it was filling the room with deep, resonant bass! Much more 'organic' than any other bass I've used in the recent past! So...
...you know what?
I'm happy!

Happy to hear you are enjoying the C64S Al.
I must say I miss that slim neck and the satin finish. When I get my 4002 back it will most likely ease the pain somewhat.

Hey Bob... I'm sure that very, very many of us forumites are into the kind of 'pain management' you're talking about!
