Nostalgia ain't what it used to be but you've got me with this one.
This is an answer from the UK
Some Gretch models had the pad at the back, for sure.
Vox is a whole new issue because, as far as I know, it was all made in the EKO factory in Italy. The guitars
we saw under the Vox brand in the UK included the 'teardrop'-shaped' guitars favoured by Brian Jones of The Rolling Stones.
I don't remember any pads on the back of these guitars but it may have been different in North America.

Simon, Gary's correct. I remember seeing this on a VOX (Eko) hollow-body (looked like an ES 335) back in the '70s.
Or was it a Country Gent in a bright red room?

There are some Vox guitars that were made in Great Britain (and are labelled so), but they are a bit rare.
I still have this sunburst Cougar:
and sold this red one.
Neither had back pads, and both were made in Italy.

I watched the Monkees but I guess I was too young and dumb to see it. My two main methods are the move the belt buckle trick and putting a wash clothe over my belt buckle when I'm playing.
During the winter I wear jogging suits for reshearals. I don't jog so I have to make some use out of all these suits. I notice my rymthm buddy wears a sweat shirt over his to practise.
Another odd ball thing I do when playing out is put and old cut off sock over my right arm where it lays over and on the guitar. I got that from watching my bass buddy. All of the finish is worn off his bass from the sweat and body oils right where his right arm sat.

Dan: Love the sock routine! As Red Green says, if the women don't find you handsome they should find you handy.

I always put a folded RIC cloth over my belt buckle when ever i'm wearing a belt. I've done this for years, just habit.
My (made in Italy by Eko) 1968 Vox Constellation IV has the back pad on it.
as you can clearly see.

Mark VI, IX, and XII VOXes also had pads on the back. The old ones, not the new ones.

Great buckle rash prevention idea, Jon! Cool "RIC" fashion, actually.

The beer gut is the best thing against buckle rash! The inconvenient thing about it is that at first I couldn't see myself "wee"! Now the problem is in the shower...Can't get my feet wet!!!
