my fear.....

"Rickenbacker Opens New Manufacturing Facility In Bangladesh"....story starts by saying "New majority shareholder and long lost cousin Shecky B. Hall states that quality will improve while prices drop...."

Gotta be something computer or media related...

I wasn't thinking so much of a new website, rather of some cool new technology, for, say, custom online ordering. But - it would have to be something pretty mind-blowing to rate this kind of coverage.

I can't think any further out of the box than that Image

New York Times. AP 3-14-2005

In response to tens of his fans in the thread:

Geddy Lee and Rickenbacker, "a show of hands"

Geddy Lee has decided to come home and is now a Rickenbacker endorser. And in a parallel move Rickenbacker Int. has unveiled the new "Geddy Lee Ric Bass".
"It is a reasonable duplicate of the 1973 jetglo 4001 he played during the 70's and early 80's and will come with one broken Chintow "Grover Slimline" tuner as his fans want authenticity. It will be made in Taiwan or Korea (important financial details have yet to be ironed out) and will retail for $189.99 W/cardboard case and will be stocked at every Guitar Center in the US as it meets their criteria for quality while also falling within their guidelines for price, according to an anonymous Ric under assistent promo VP.
Questioned incredulously on how the quality can be the same as an american Ric bass which retails for about 6 times that amount the anonymous source said..
"Well under stage lights it looks like Geddy's and if Fender can get away with it for that long it's time for us to get a piece of the pie"

I'm thinking that this could be soooo radical that it allows Rick to leapfrog over Fender, Gibby, PRS, etc., in some high tech way. To combine the best qualities of old and newest tech in some way, would be the type of thing that would be expected and exciting, too.

Too hyperbolic? Guess we'll have to wait.

Over at Voxtalks, John used the phrase "thought you might like to be forwarned".

I've observed that J.H. chooses his words carefully...
We'd be 'informed' of impending good news. 'Forewarned' possibly implies dissapointing news. I hope I'm reading too much into the negative connotation.

It's all right, Paul. Sit back, have a valium or two and chill for a couple of weeks. I'm guessing it's not bad news (gulp!!).

Well, Dane, that's a more positive thing.

But I don't think the Halls want or need the Hassle...

JH mentioned in another thread that 'Rick-o-Sound' was soon to be off the menu, so in order to keep the 'ROS' acronym going, Rickenbacker have purchased the plant where the Gretsch Synchromatic guitars are made and are now gonna produce 'Rick-o-Sync's!!

Initially available only in Outer Mongolia, Afghanistan, Papa Westray and Sierra Leone.

They will never figure it out, right? I know, but they can't torture me on line! Ha Ha Ha! Image
