Jeff, Sorry about the diaper for my baby. It's interesting though. I was in the collectibles business at one time, and condition was always key. With electric guitars and basses, there does seem to be a certain "mojo" added when it is well worn and folks will still pay an arm and a leg for it.

That might be a little different with Rickenbackers however as IMO there is such an artistic quality to the design.

Without sacrificing the body with any holes, think this is a really good compromise, the best of both worlds, if its your thing then its a good thing! I have to agree with Henny, it is an interesting concept a snap-on pickguard, whether I like the concept or not.

Another thing to consider is this. While I don't like beat up guitars, some people do and that is cool. However, if you WERE going to beat up a guitar, WHY pick a blue boy finished model that is GOING to be rare in the future. I am not a bass expert, but there cannot be that many 4004 Blueboys around.

Thats very true, they have hardly made any!! Marc you will definitely be quids in as we say in the UK, if you still dont like it in a little while you'll make a bit on it for the rarity of the colour!

Marc, that's a beautiful and rare bass, I wouldn't do anything non-reversible to it. The only thing I'd do if it were mine is to get a white TRC for it, that would look better against the light blue.

A pickguard, even if no screw holes are drilled, will leave a "shadow" when the paint and clearcoat start to discolor over time.

Warren, what is that dark wood sandwiched between the inner and outer parts of the body of your 4004? That's a really nice looking bass.

Do all the mapleglo Cheyannes come like that or rather all the Cheyannes? If so that's my next Ric bass.

All the Cheyennes have the Maple/Walnut/Maple sandwich; it is a shame to cover that up!
