Hint: The bassist who played on the song in question has played with Nick Lowe, Wreckless Eric, Madness, the Selecter and Frankie Goes to Hollywood, among others.

well that is ian durys bassist, Norman Watt-Roy.

Still not sure of the track though. Is it a Clash song?

Indeed it is a Clash tune. Paul Simonon was in the hospital when it was recorded, so Norman Watt-Roy filled in.

Problem I have is that I haven't played that album for more than 20 years, and also it is just that, a vinyl album, so digging it out and setting up the turntable to play it is a bit of a chore.

Clue; Hits between 79-82 then split
reformed
hits between 85-89 split
reformed 07 to present
