Mind you,thats my CS bass that Chris Squire is holding in the book so its one down but one still standing.

No, Wints' boat paddle. I have an affinity for White 4001's. Mine is in the registry, though its not exactly like Wints' but still a whitey! OJ 7200.

How rare is the black plexi TRC on a '75 4001?

Well, they are rare, but how anyone could determine "how rare" is anyone's guess. I recently sold a '75 4001 that was overall Walnut (not a burst) that had the "reverse" plexi TRC and a black pick guard. Mid '70s was about the time Rickenbacker started doing the black trim thing, but there's no numbers that we can determine.

I'm thinking , the latest production ser# one whic has the black plexi. I've been told the cut off was ~mid '75. Mine's October 75 so I would way it might be one of the later ones?

That book IS astounding, by the way. I recognized many basses in it (not necessarily famous players)

Glad I saw this thread. I was hoping to find a cool book about the Rickenbacker bass and I did. I just received my book today and I'm looking forward to reading and seeing some of the history.

I recently got the book as well. I was really optimistic when I first heard it was a possibility, and when I finally had it in my hands I was thrilled. I love books, and I love Rick basses, so I'm glad this happened.

I finally got an unofficial sales report from the publisher. They say that the book is selling well and consistently, which is counter to most of its type that sell well and first, then taper off. It looks like around 2,000 copies have sold which is about half of the press run. Don't know what their criteria is for making a second printing (or second edition), but I'll be ready to go when it happens.

I've been told by a collector friend and fellow Forumite that Geddy Lee now has the book and thinks it is "cool." He's also stated that he can help out getting publishable photos of himself with various Ricks for future editions.

If there is anyone at NAMM who sees the book on display, please take a quick pic and post!

The book is definitely selling well; confirmed by Hap Leonard at their NAMM booth.
