Hi all, various folk that have seen it in person say Burgundy but I'd believe you lot if you rekoned it was a refinish. I'd go for odd burgundy myself. It's been extensively used in the past, came in a flight case, seriously sweated over, the neck is quite faded on the back. You might almost say reliced if it wasn't for the fact that it is a relic. Plays perfectly though. I'll have to have a look at this Minkglo though, sounds interesting.
You know, I knew I'd lurked here too long when I saw a pals 4001 and immediately said "ah, a 74".

Here is the original "mink," a custom color that I had my old Mapleglo '72 refinished by Paul Wilczynski. It really should be called "Wineglo," "Berryglo," or even "Merlotglo." "Mink" was the name given to a custom Les Paul I remember seeing in Colorado in 1978, although it was browner than the color my bass turned out.
There has been some evidence of '70s basses that have a darkening of the finish next to the binding. Not quite sure what causes it, and not sure that yours shows this. From what I can see in your photos, yours is not a normal finish. Pretty, nonetheless.

Yepp it is nowadays...this pic is from 2002 or so...now this bass is older so it has grown to a workhorse,,,the bad thing is that I have grown a bit too since this pic was taken...
Dan.

I'd say "Pinotglo"...

Nice! That's a great action shot. And say what you will about Peavey, that particular head does some serious rocking. A two parallel channel design, if I'm correct. I plugged a Rick into one of these when I worked at Guitar center - MAJOR snarl with all the gain you can achieve, plus a decent amount of punch if you set one of the channels cleaner. Rikk - I notice that you're using the stereo jack on the bass, but only one cable is going into the amp. Do you have the jacks reversed or is there a custom wiring situation going on there?

I've used that Peavey head since the early 80's. It STILL sounds great. While it not really heavy, I wish it was lighter and smaller. Not to mention the SVT 8x10 cab.
I'm not using the stereo jack. I only have one mono jack. Good eye though noticing it's in the space where the stereo jack should be. I just moved it a few weeks ago when I started using a new bass stand which the bottom rest was right over the standard jack. I moved it so I can keep it plugged in on the stand. Your eagle eye saw where I plugged the bass in, but didn't see the PUPs. Don't look too close. (ducks)

Actually, I DID see the NON-RIC pickups, but chose to pass over mention of them so as to avoid possible hostile reaction from the RRF faction. You've made your own bed NOW, my friend!
