Hi Paul,

Actually, tonight I will be watching the Pago Bay Reefers at the Mermaid Tavern!!! My buddy Mike Siegel has some RICs including a bass he uses for that band. There are a few around here as well as 6 and 12-string RICs. Shown here Mike with his bass, Bruce Reynolds with his 381/6 and me with a PW Acoustic RIC. Rickenbackers are alive and well-represented on Guam!!! Thanks again for all the work on the book. Read some more this morning. I like the nice spread on the Aqua Bass with the great marine life inlays. Craig Lavin also did the inlays for my 380/12. I was inspired to do my guitar after seeing that stunning bass.

My copy arrived via Amazon a couple of days ago, what can I say...phenomenal! Thank you for putting this all together!

The book has had a lot of positive affects for us all, for me it renewed my love for my 4003 which I hadn't played in 6 months.

I've been engrossed in the book the past few evenings after work. I'm learning a lot, and really loving the photos! I'm going to have to dial back my Ric Acquisition Fever a bit or I'll be in big trouble...

I had to zoom out to see all the text on the page, but for some reason using the "zoom out" function (command -) in Safari made the text bigger and "zoom in" (command +) made it smaller. Not sure that I understand his criticism of the lack of index; table of contents is more than sufficient for a book with this organization.

It's recently come to my attention that some readers may not be aware of the two-page foldout in the back of the book (inside the back cover) that has the timeline and family tree graphic of Rickenbacker bass development. It's possible that some copies of the book are absent this "tip in," but everyone should check to see if it is there. It's folded inward, so at first glance it looks like a blank page facing the "about the author" page (p.144). Please let me know if it is not there!

Paul, I've gotta tell you I LOVE this book! And I'm not someone that is easy to please when it comes to run-of-the-mill Rickenbacker info. My son gave it to me for Father's Day, and it is very cool! I especially love how you have some pictures of bass players playing their Ricks who are NOT the "big three" i.e. Macca, Squire, or Geddy -- I'd much prefer to see some new, interesting pics rather than a picture of Squire that I've seen in five other books or periodicals. And the real surprise for me was that a bass I used to own appears in it! GREAT WORK!
By the way, I am a retired scale modeler myself, used to build everything from Mustangs, Spitfires, 109s Focke Wulf 190s, you name it

Thanks, fellahs! The book has been out a full year now. I should get a sales/royalties statement from the publisher, Hal Leonard Books, sometime soon. At the six-months point it had sold around 2,000 copies -- half the press run. They tell me that's good for "a book of its type" and that they were pleased with the sales.

Paul, didn't realise you were a Professor of History as well!
