Okay....I'm here--I am so sorry to be so late; this has been a heck of a day, which culminated in our local Internet provider's server going haywire just as I was putting up my post about today's events....
Just now got back online!
Exactly 24 hours after receiving the package, my hubby and I opened the case.... The guitar is absolutely, breathtakingly drop-dead GORGEOUS. All of Paul's beautiful pictures don't even begin to do justice to how it looks in person.... Stunning. Truly the stuff of dreams, and the color is PERFECT--an accurate match to the sample I sent.
However, I was heartbroken to see a small nick down to the wood on the face of the guitar right next to the jackplate that occurred due to an absolutely freak shipping accident.... Paul has kindly offered to repair it for free, so the guitar will be packed to go back to California on Monday--I am just thankful that it can be fixed.
But I will sure hate to see it leave the house again--It is sooooo pretty, and it plays like a dream. It is the guitar that made me fall in love with Rickenbacker in the first place, and I am hopelessly in love with that guitar all over again. I put it through its paces this afternoon after I got over the initial shock and talked to Paul, and it sounds as incredible as it looks.... Like I said, I am thankful that the damage was not nearly as bad as it could have been, though I am sure Paul felt as badly about it as I did; after all this was a labor of love for him too!
I am still planning to play Pretty Purpleburst in church on Sunday--at the moment I don't want any other guitar in my hands!

Will post pics when I get a chance....
Oh, and the smell! Not exactly Ric-o-roma, but upon opening the case we were enveloped in a pleasant tropical coconut fragrance that was not unlike bikini wax, LOL! Must be that Zymol that Paul raves about--and he sent a complimentary diaper, too!

Oh Melissa, I am am sorry to hear that it arrived slightly damaged.
That is wonderful news that Paul has offered to repair it. Don't worry though he will get her fixed up just like new.

Sorry to hear about that Melissa but at least you know it will be taken care of.

I'm feeling the pain with you, Melissa. What a terrible shame!
Give 'em the works in church tomorrow anyhow!! Not surprising to me that PW has offered to repair it for zip - seems to me he's that sort of guy.

Yes.... and I continue to hold him in highest regards, with utmost admiration and respect....
As I said, his work is incredible.... Second to none.

AAAGGGHHH!!!
Melissa, what a dirty rotten shame.
I don't know you but I am very sorry.
What do you mean exactly by an "absolutely freak shipping accident?"
And who is the guilty party?

No guilt, just an unfortunate and unforeseeable accident involving an extra piece of hardware that had somehow shifted in transit and slipped out of the closed case compartment--I am just very thankful that the damage was not any worse than it was....

that I wanted to keep....
