Yep, and we wonder why the government is so messed u p...
However, I think that it's not appreciated enough that all of the earth's tectonic plates do float on the underlying liquid mantle (solid rock is less dense than liquid rock, so it floats) . IMO, current models of the effects of a large asteroid/comet impact event do not take into account the repercussions of the impact on these 'floating islands of rock' ...

Whatever. I'm putting Velcro on my flip-flops and carrying a spare snorkel just in case.

Gary, you gotta admit though it would be some doing for the whole plate to flip over because of a few thousand extra people. Besides, the finer point of mantle plates floating on magma is probably also beyond this politician's um, experience.

Indeed, Hank Johnson is not the sharpest tool hanging over the workbench. It is a fact, and not a particular obscure one, that islands do not 'tip over'.
It is not, however, unreasonable to inquire how a fragile ecosystem like a coral reef might be affected by 8,000 'recreation loving' Marines and their 17,000 dependents.

As you can imagine, getting 8,000 Marines and their dependents (maybe an extra 20,000 people on an island that already has 170,000) is a controversial issue to many factions.
And with all the hub-bub about health care, no one pays any attention to Guam. So even a gaff of this proportion is good news as it is at least making more folks aware of our plight.
The short of it is that we can use the jobs and extra consumers. We can't afford to lose any resources or not have the Feds pull their weight when it comes to upgrading infrastructure, roads, etc.
Mixed blessing.
Falling into the sea has been a new development but, oddly, is pretty much the least of our worries.

Hey, Peter! Thanks for this, man...I had never heard of these guys. Fantastic! And, not wanting to take anything away from Freddie's M's delivery, but I now view this song as 100% Country. In the original version, the lyrics always sounded incongruous to me, being sung as they were by an operatic tenor with a little too much enunciation. Lines like "Ah'm justa po' boy" and "Mama, jus' kilt a man...put a gun aginst 'is haid...", etc...way-ull shoot, buddy! Thass jus' sum plain ol', down home C'n'W!
