Hearing about a V68, no matter how many times or how often, is not going to make it happen. I hate to be a wet blanket here, but I can't see this happening.

I should probably say here that I have no "inside information" on this.

And, boy, would I love to be wrong!

Sure, rain on our parade!

I gave up trying to guess what it would be awhile back and placed my trust in the powers that be
at Rick to have something that will flip us out.

All though theorizing endlessly can still be fun.....

Well, it only makes sense. No crushed pearl coming out of Santa Ana, we've known this for a while (though I love the current full width inlays). And if you can't get the CP, is the rest of it even really worth doing?

There are several guys here (Paul, Larry) and elsewhere who would love to make your bass a v68. You won't regret it!

Thanks for the shout-out, JB; I'm working on one of these right now for a customer in the EU! Pics when it's done...

You know, one of these days they're probably going to have to reissue a 1974-1979 style bass in lieu of Mr. Lee and his impact. There are reams of people out there who adore the 1970s Rics over all others, for the shedua strip, shorter headstock, clearer Hi-Gains, etc. It'll be interesting to see if RIC ever pursues this (especially because it would sorta' compete with Fender's Geddy Lee Jazz).

The change happened sometime in 1969, and yes, it was notable, IMO.

Yes sir! I think the differences were more evident in the shape and in the laminations of the headstock than in its length, but the classic 60's 4001 headstock was around 3/8 to 1/2 inch longer than the late 70's 4001 headstock.

From around 1963 to 1969, the 4001 headstock looked like this:

And from late 1973 until the end of the 4001 in the early 80's, they were shaped like this:

There were a couple of transitional headstocks between '69 and '73 also.

And that late 70's 4001 headstock carried over to the 4003 also (although without the skunk stripe) until 1997 or so.

Is it possible, seeing as how the C series was a "Beatles series", that they will bring out another 325?
