Yes,those are really a good design,i had one put into my 67 Epi Embassy when i got it. (It actually had a way too short guitar truss rod in it from the factory originally, and it broke...)

Prepping the headstock for refinishing:
The little white streaks seen in the rosewood grain of the headstock and fretboard of an RM 1999 are vinyl putty, which RIC did starting some time very early on, I'm not sure when exactly, and the '64 basses have this feature. I'm not sure when this was discontinued, but my '68 does not appear to have the same vinyl filler.
When I got the bass back from **** ******, it had been sanded and faded slightly, but the vinyl was still noticeable as seen in this photo.
But after I did my stripping and sanding, the vinyl was diminished almost altogether, so I filled the putty back in.
Just a shave today, sir?
Taking a stroke with the "single razor"
After a light sanding with 220 grit
Slightly more sanding with 400 grit.

No - I just had to take some pictures.
.... Rose-Morris 1999 DH156: Reloaded
This is just a quick preview for now. But I have to say, now that all's said and done, the past seven years of getting this bass restored to it's original condition has totally been worth the effort. I'm pretty pleased with how it's turned out. It's totally what I was hoping for as an end result. And it sounds damn good, too! I'll post a comprehensive series of photos and a sound check video as well. Now excuse me while I get back to PLAYING this thing!

What a beauty. Looking at what you started with -- to this -- very impressive, indeed!
