Hey Thanks for the welcome everyone.My bass is a 2000 made in March.I had it sence it was new.
Everything is standard.I like the feel of the five with the strings tight together.the only disappointing thing about 5 is the B string it sounds muddy or sloppy.I dont know if its the scale lenght being 33 1/2 inches. I new this might be a problem when I bought this style bass but it didnt stop me. I love the look and the sound ,my buddy had a maple glo 4001 and i fell in love with it .ive played a lot of 5 stringers.Warick and Lakland basses that had a 35 inch scale and the B sounded tight.But they didnt feel nothing like a Ric.This site is unbelievable lot of Ric players here.

What kind of strings are you running on it? I have D'Addario EXL220-5's on mine (also a 2000- if I counted correctly, made in Sep), the B is .125. I don't notice anything sloppy. I think the D'Addarios are a little 'stiffer' than other strings. Maybe try different strings and/or do a setup on the neck.

Welcome DeWayne - a couple of things I did for my 4-string 4001 that I tune B-E-A-D. I got rid of the height adj screws on the bridge and replaced them with washers that act as shims. (You can also use dimes or something similar.) This gives the whole bridge a flat surface to rest on, and remedies the tilt issue which happens with most 4001/4003 bridges. I also raised the action just a little bit on the 'B' side to increase the tension of the B string. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info on the bridge.I will half to check into that.As for the strings I use Ric strings.
I did a complete set up 3 weeks ago.I do have my action low and about a 10thousands gap on the 12th fret with pressure on the 1st and last fret I do belive the 22nd and I adjusted intonation on it at the 12th fret.As for the sound its just an open B to C once I hit D on the B its all good.But im not complaning.I thought maybe it would have a tighter sound.But its a allsome bass.I did have it packed up for about 5 years do to back injury and the family. I did Toss around of selling it but once I got it out put new strings on it and set it up wow how the memorys come back.got my fingers back in order and playin again its an allsome feeling..Thanks for the info I will check in to that dime thing and check in to some D'Addario EXL220-5's and see what happends.I do appreciate it.

As you string up your Rick bass (those ones that have the cast zinc tail piece, of course) make sure that the bridge piece is tipped all the way forward so that it hits the wall of the mute housing. If you do this then: A) Tightening the strings will hold the bridge in place and keep it from tipping back, B) Once you set your intonation, it's easy to put the bridge back in exactly the same place so that your intonation will be correct for the next set of strings (provided you use similar strings, of course) and, C) The intonation screws on the other side of the bridge will be as high (and accessible) as they can be.

I use Elixers on my 2000 S/5. A 125 B string. It sounds great and isn't too floppy.

I've got a .130 as a B on my /5.
