One of the things that attracted John, Paul and George to Ringo is that Starr was already an experienced established and well know drummer.
Starr was a "star" well before the Fabs ever were.
In May of 1960 The Beatles:
* came up with their name
* were drummerless (Tommy Moore and Hutch Hutchinson filling in)
* did the Larry Parnes audition (resulting in the somewhat disappointing Scotland tour with Johnny Gentle, May 20-28)
* played the Jacaranda Coffee Bar (May 30) for the princely sum of "Coca Cola and beans on toast".
On May 3 1960, Ringo was playing at Liverpool Stadium.

- The Beatles first autographs appeared in late 1960 and included the original five members: John Lennon Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Pete Best and Stuart Sutcliffe. With the exception of contracts, only three sets of autographs have surfaced from this period. They were on album pages and the back of an unpublished photograph. Signatures on back of photograph featuring the original five including Stuart Sutcliffe. It is also signed by Astrid Kirchherr, his girlfriend and famed photographer.
- Performance contract for the original five and Tony Sheridan who the Beatles recorded with as Tony Sheridan and the Beat Brothers.
- the first ever Ringo signatures, when he was in the Rory Storm And The Hurricanes Band autographs signed at Bultins June 1960. According to Beatles autograph expert, Frank Caiazzo, this is the earliest known Ringo autograph
