You look like a shadow of your present self, John!
Are you in the witness protection program?

It's art, man! BTW, that was taken about 90 minutes ago.

Ah, the 75th Ann. Dark Cherry Metallic. Good to see one put to use! Nice one, John.

You know; I really don't care for fretted basses, but I was browsing Joey's site shortly after I'd picked up my '08 MID 4003 FL, and I saw his DCM on his intro page, and I showed my wife (How about this one?), and she almost wet herself (she's a sucker for gorgeous instruments, as her Dad and Mum ran a music store when she wes young) - let's face it, most Ricks are absoulutely gorgeous. Shortly thereafter, rickaddict had one for sale here (the only other one online was mint at Pick of the Ricks for $4,495), and I just had to get it.
I'm getting used to frets again, but I have to keep playing my fretless' otherwise my intonation on both will suffer!

I have had many fretless basses over the decades, the only ones I currently have are my Zon Sonus 5/1 with a single passive volume control and spalted maple top, and a Rick Turner RB4FL, which has the most unique mwah this side of Rigel III.

Out of all my basses, I only own 1 fretless - a '76 4001. I string it with either flats or half-rounds, and get a great smooth tone, unlike the Chris Squire twang I get with my fretted basses, which is my personal tone of choice. However, the fretless is my go-to bass for gigs. Most bands I play with prefer it's basic fundamental warmth.

I'm new here and wanting to get some info on my 4000 Bass. I was told it was a '63 but the ser. # is GK 4651 which would be Nov. 1967, yeah? Great site here, I look forward to further perusal.
Aloha, Ric Chick
Hi,
Nice bass. Are you living in Hawaii? Do you still gig with the bass?
Chris

Steve Breman's former '71 4001 finally gets stage time outside of Moab, Utah:

- In a rare moment of using just the toaster!
Can't wait to finally use it through my own amp rig in a couple of weeks in Santa Cruz....

Paul, that second picture is really neat - great lighting and two classics.
