Good call Peter (and Gil), when somebody spends 90% of their time here blasting RIC and other members, they're proving they have nothing worthwhile to contribute on this forum. Take the vitriol and hate elsewhere...

After 400+ posts on this thread, I can't wait for NAMM 2014!

Although things got a bit heated at times, IMHO it has all been worth it, if only to see the photo of the NAMM Ric 350MC / 350V89 (or whatever it ends up being called) and also the link to the Ric Facebook site showing the fantastic 'back-up' custom Rics made for Tom Petty & Mike Campbell, shown again below:

And yes, if John & Ben Hall are ever minded to produce a limited run of the NAMM 350 special, please add my name to the list!

I wish I could feel the same way, but this year was kinda anticlimactic, seeing that the Campbell guitar isn't "official" (yet).

After JH's statement about "nothing new at NAMM", and the tease about F-Hole models, maybe we'll be surprised with a new model or limited run sometime during the year, when we least expect it.

One could take John's comment in a different light, too, one regarding what the instruments RIC does make represent. IIRC John was pointing out to the commentator some 381s whiles making that comment perhaps implying that they did not have to make something totally new and different as what RIC makes is exactly what the majority of the playing and buying public wants already.

I can completely understand the factory's position. They have a well established product line which has stood the test of time and remains in demand. In troubled economic times like these I am sure their primary focus is, and should be, the safeguarding of existing business and looking for sensible and sustainable organic growth where there may be opportunity (e.g. the recently announced plans for expansion of distribution into Germany/France). While many people on here (not least me) would love to see new niche products come to market, I think we all have to be realistic about what sense these types of products make for RIC in the bigger scheme of things.

I always smile when I see the reaction to factory one off/limited runs. A handful of people normally step forward straightaway saying how wonderful the guitar is and how they would buy one (or more) immediately if it ever came to market or were to be made available in their home market. Even if I take those comments at face value (and I have no reason not to) and that words would be translated into action, the point is that it is only ever a handful of people saying that.....you can't plan a sustainable business on the basis of that type of reaction/volume however genuine it may be.

When I look at what the factory have done just in the last 12 months (i.e. the UK LE Pearl White 1997s, the US Tobacco burst LE 330S f-holes, the various one-offs like the Greenglo f-hole etc) I take my hat off to them. To do that whilst managing the business through today's challenging economic environment I'd say is admirable. From what John and Ben have said they've also indicated that these types of small run/one-offs will continue to be done as and when they have the bandwidth to do it without detriment to their main business operations. That is also laudable. I wish them every success with the maintainance and development of the core business as that is the best route to enable some of the niche models we'd all like to see to eventually come to market.

I almost forget about this, but a conversation between Mark Walker and I in the Rickenbacker 4004 Club on Facebook, got me to remember this cool product I had found at NAMM.
This product will help you extend the life of your string, especially in you have an acidic sweat in your hands. Even if this is not a probelm for you, it should still help you extend the life of your strings and make playing easier. I tried it from samples they gave me at the show. I like it. Check it out:
