Playing it at a Vort (engagement party) at someones house here in Monsey, NY (pic on page 278). That's where I met my guitarist. He is sick, I'm talking virtuouso level. He can play Page Page level stuff and play some 24-note crazy scale in 2 seconds. He invited me to join his band Halav O'Davash (Milk and Honey, they're in Brooklyn) a few months back, and has taught me quite a bit as he is a guitar teacher (he teaches bass and piano too, he can even play some crazy flute thing) in the NY area. Unfortunately we only had 2 gigs as our drummer got a job at a pizza shop after the first gig and quit on us. Hopefully soon he'll get another drummer and get another gig. I'll attach the full pic from the Vort. We also had a friend on keyboard and a guy on harmonica at the time.jps wrote:Playing it at the synagogue?

Looks like you had fun, but where's the food?
Play in a band or deliver pizza, hmm, tough choice, there.
There must be plenty of drummers around there so you guys should be rocking in no time, I hope.
BTW, we both have great Jewish last names, eh?

This one is really fun to play!
Re: Post of picture of you PLAYING your ric
Food is behind the camera. Toby doesn't just want any drummer, he wants a really good drummer. Actually he has a rock project and some personal project (all kinds of musical styles) that he is working on, plus he gives guitar lessons, so he isn't doing much with the Jewish music right now. The music on his personal is so complex, he said for me to have any chance of playing that with him, we would need to practice 3-4 per week for months. He is well over an hour away, and we couldn't even start rehearsing until close to 1 AM, so that would leave me getting home and going to bed in the morning. I have my own health business and other important priorities so that is out of the question unless I have enough money to be financially set. The only other way it might work is if I moved out to Flatbush, and I really wouldn't want to live there. Monsey is much nicer and I would easily have to pay double what I'm paying now for rent and utilities in Flatbush, plus having a car is a liabilty there as parking sucks. I'll keep practicing and we'll see what happens, but for now I think Chalav O'Davash is inactive. Last name was changed from a very unpronounceable Russian last name when my grandfather came to the US. My parents almost named me Ian Michael Matthews, but they thought is sounded too much like an Irish saint.jps wrote:Looks like you had fun, but where's the food?![]()
