"container of Jello" is pretty accurate...
“I say in speeches that a plausible mission of artists is to make people appreciate being alive at least a little bit. I am then asked if I know of any artists who pulled that off. I reply, 'The Beatles did.”

The 381v69s do, as some have said, lend themselves to showing off particularly nice grain. The photo above is an excellent example of this. Perhaps it is the carve that adds a three-dimensional effect whereby the maple grain just seems to jump out at you. Sorry about the fine-grain analysis.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Does anyone know if "curly maple" was ever used for a RIC top?

I seem to recall seeing a photo of one in curly maple that looked as if it was made of hammered gold--I think it was one that John Williams used to own? It was one of the prettiest I'd ever seen.... And here's mine:

Michael, I've seen RIC use Curly, Quilt and Birdeye Maple. In fact, over the last number of years, Curly is what I've seen most.

Not on your life! It still has that incredible Ric-o-'roma when I open the case--it is a euphoria-inducing instrument!

Not at all.... I know I don't deserve any of this, but my husband loves to spoil me rotten! I'm just a brat, LOL!

We currently recognize and use nine different types of wood character, which is also dependent upon the way the wood is sawn:

Flatsawn Quilt
Quartersan Quilt
Sausage Quilt
Tiger Stripe
Flame aka Riftsawn Curly
Fiddleback aka Quartersawn Curly
Quittle
Burl aka Birdseye
Unique Curly

Due to spot availability, we only specify "charactered", not any of the specifc varieties.

What you see above is Sausage Quilt.

John, your collection never ceases to amaze me! It was that '95 381 that I was thinking of.... But that Blueburst one always haunts my dreams!
