It seems pointless to chase after Rick-o-sound at this point. There's a lot more to Geddy's sound than just Rick-o-sound. I don't mean to be on a crusade against Rick-o-sound. I just don't think it's the holy grail that you're searching after. Just pick up a decent amp (maybe one that has a headphone out?), practice, and start playing with people. Save the money on a Rick-o-sound box and buy a metronome!

I'm too poor for anything buy a practice amp right now. Besides, it is way too expensive to buy an amp and cabnet and have it shipped to me. Now that I know I can get the sound in mono, I don't need Rick-O-Sound. That's what I get for moving to New Zealand.

Hey Nate - congratulations on post # 100!

Where did you move from? We're actually in the same hemisphere, if not the same time zone - I live in Japan.

Don't worry about buying gear - it's just a never-ending obsession that often clouds what really needs work. Keep an eye out for a decent used amp though!

I still like the idea of Ric-O-Sound, but I still like the idea of running up a flight of stairs three-at-a-time too...it's just that neither of them is a regular part of my life anymore. I play mono through one amp now, as I'm alternating live between the 4001F and my Fender P...I sure wasn't gonna spend time and money making the Fender act 'stereo', so it's all just as well, and they both sound fine...Nate: Harry, Jeff and BTO are right: 'get a second-hand guitar, chances are you'll go far', etc., etc....

By the way, give my regards to Rotorua...

Heh, I didn't even notice #100! I moved from Buffalo, NY. The flight from LA was a nice 13 hours.

All I have right now is my 4001. I was hoping to sell it to get a 4003 (or a 4004... I wanna look into one of those) and a jazz bass (a cheap one of course). I have a custom bass on the way so I'm set for basses, I just need a good amp.
