Well, I have an Ebay beef with a guy too who was a complete jerk, won't name his name (Email if you want it) and won't EVER do business with HIM again. I know that red grimace face too well.

And Lawton has not posted for awhile. I'd be major embarrassed, too. It is a lesson--keep your communication up and current! These things can go sideways very quickly in this era of instantaneous feedback.

Hey guys, I just got a second chance offer on a 650D that I missed this week. It looks like an eBay email but the sending address has nothing in it that remotely resembles an eBay one. I know that second chance offers exist but I'm concerned about responding to what looks like a bogus address.
Think I'll sit this one out.........

I've just got to say that I think this forum is great, and also so is ebay, and so is paypal.For someone in a small business like me,being able to accept credit cards before paypal was a very expensive affair, what with having to rent the machines etc so its made credit card transactions a possibility for the small trader.
As regards this forum,I've had nothing but wonderful experiences.
As regards ebay, I've bought and sold a couple of guitars as well as items of my work, with a very small percentage of problems.I have also had equal amounts of problems trading in the traditional sense over the past 20 yrs, just because in any cross section of society there is always a very small minority of , I think the technical term is 'w**k*rs'. With any transaction, whether on this forum or on ebay, a certain amount of common sense is required to safeguard yourself, just like in the 'real' world.One thing is for sure, with the global access that both this forum and ebay allows, there is no doubt that with the expanded choice of items on offer, you're far more likely to get a good deal, or to find something rare now than you ever have been. So rather than just raise the negative issues (which happen in all aspects of trading,whether it be online or terrestial)which are a tiny percentage of the the deals that are done, maybe a bit of balance wouldnt go amiss.As regards whether to use this Forum v Ebay to buy a guitar, surely it would depend on whether the guitar you were after was on this forum or ebay, and which ever , it would still be a good idea to have a phone number, address etc before parting with any money.

Howard, bogus second chance offers are the current scourge of eBay! Go to the original auction page and e-mail the seller using their link. Ask him if the second chance offer is legit.

It's interesting that the scond chance email says that the winner was unable to complete the transaction. The seller had already re-listed it due to a dud bid. He'd have to be stiff to be shafted twice, wouldn't he??
There's another guy who's just relisted a 381V69MG for the third time. His BIN price has dropped from $3199 to $2799 - he must be desperate! Wonder if it's getting close to 'swoop' time.

Australian, I assume, Aitch? Cuz the going USA price for a recent one used is about $1600.00. A 381 from 1970 or a bit later would be in the US$3K range, for a nicely-preserved one.

It was a December '02 build, Paul. I say 'was' because it's been sold (BIN) at $2799 which equates to just over $2100 US. Probably not a bad price when you consider the 'street' price here for a new one is around $4700 AUD. And I'm guessing that there aren't many hanging around over here!!
