"Two fellas was sittin in the room ... smokin one of dem cigarettes with no name on it ... you know what I mean. So they’z smokin, and suddenly, cops start knockin on the door! One fella says, "Maann ... hide the stuff!" "Where?" "In the cuckoo clock!" So cops come in, lookin’ everywhere ... don’t find nuttin ... take off. Few minutes pass and one fella says to the other, "maann ... go get the stuff!" "I can’t get the stuff till the cuckoo come outta the cuckoo clock!" So they sittin, waitin ... fifteen minutes, twenty minutes ... half hour ... hour fifteen! Finally ... cuckoo slowly comes outta the cuckoo clock ... ... ... has dem dark sunglasses on ... and says ... "Maaannn ... what time is it!?"

I remember listening to that Stone Roses album when I was 17 or so. I loved the bass tone on it. It sounded McCartneyesque to my ears. . . . so I checked the album art and, surprise, semi-hollow Rick!
I think one of the guys in XTC has one too, but I don;t think it's shown up on recordings.

I've only seen those Rob Allen basses that Andy posted a pic of in magazines. Andy and Jeffrey, have you guys tried out those basses? A 5 string fretless version of that bass would be cool...I think.

Hey, this is a Moms Mabley joke thread. What do you guys think you're doing?

I played the fretted one that was reviewed in Bass Player magazine a few years ago. It was at the LA Bass Exchange, and I mean the very one, same serial number! I wasn't enamored with the Labella tapewounds on it so I can't really comment on the sound but the bass did play nice and if it were a fretless I might have it in my closet now, along with Moms Mabley.
See how this works Bob?

Jeff, I think Moms was pretty much out of the closet. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
But I don't understand why she's in a bass thread, since she played a 350SH (or maybe the extremely rare 350MM).

My favorite Moms joke, about how she got in big trouble on a flight: "I was on an airplane and my ears got to hurting, so I asked the stewardess girl what I could do to stop the pain. She said "Moms, all I can tell you to do is drop your jaws. And I misunderstood her."

I knew this guy back in the 70's with a 2005. He called up Rickenbacker and asked if they "had any basses laying around" and they sold him a 2005 display model! He got it for a great price too. It was burgundyglo. Real nice sounding bass.
Someone mentioned a Gibson EB-2. I owned one of those. It was nice looking (red) and played nice, but was just about unusable sound wise, and I like Gibson basses. It was too deep and used to feed back quite easily.

It's true, I have seen a pic of Noel Gallagher using one, though I found it a little weird, him being the guitar player and all.

Hey Joey! The picture of the Rob Allen I posted earlier (and the one below) is mine! It’s a great little bass with a big fat sound. It really has an upright flair to it and is unbelievable light. I told Rob that it’s too bad that Warwick’s slogan is the “sound of wood” because that really what this bass is all about!
cheers
