Paul, going back to your picture on the first page of this thread. How did you get them to stick on the wall like that?

I had a late '60s lefty Jaguar in the early '70s. It was the worst guitar that I have ever had, always sounded out of tune.

Pete: That's what the tuners are for! You really should get someone to show you how to tune a guitar. Just kidding! When I bought my first 3/4-scale Rick, I didn't understand that different string gauges were required for the short scale. I couldn't figure why it never felt or sounded right. I also once had a guitar with an aftermarket bridge that was in the wrong location. I didn't know enough to recognize the problem at the time. Live and learn...

My Jags need .011 flats to sound OK up and down the scale...the scale length is short--24". These guitars sound awful with .008s and .009s like some guys I knew used to play 'em in the '70s.

And they are not known for sustain.

IMO the Japanese CIJ reissues beat the pants off the vintage ones for quality of construction and finish.

Lefty Jags and Jazzmasters are the weirdest-looking guitars on the planet, probably because they are so radically asymmetrical.

I feel like I've been on a Lefty Jag for years...

It's not easy being radically asymmetrical...

Ah! that may be why mine sounded so awful. Too light strings on it and (Randy) I never really sussed out what those tin things were for on the small wooden end!

I use .011-gauge strings (or larger) on my full-scale guitars. I can't *comprehend* what .008s would feel like on a Jag.

Anyone got any pictures of a Jazzmaster with the mint green pickguard? I'm thinking of giving my olympic white model a new look but have a sneaky suspicion it might turn out looking terrible.

Don't need pics to know that it would look pretty odd.

The so-called "mint green" guards are either old and aged (the white celluloid on the old w/b/w guards loses its opacity over time and soaks up some of the black from the center layer...result is the greenish tint that, to me, looks cheezy), or new and manufactured to look old.

I'd keep the tortoise. I have a Fender Japan '59 replica with a gold anodized guard, and it looks gorgeous. So (if you can find one) that would be an option, and would look really nice on an Oly White body.
