No problem Ken.

I never have had real major RAS, and my needs are always far greater than my wants. Of course, there are always a couple of things I'm working on, but if they don't come off it's no big deal. I've actually been thinking of selling a few of my basses recently...

The only thing I'd chance upon at present if one came my way, is an Long Scale Series 1 Alembic Fretless.

Ken, Squire's 21 fret bass was Mapleglo. I wonder if he still has that one, because I nearly bought a Mapleglo 21 fret bass in London three years ago. The guy sold it as I was travelling there to buy it!
This could well be Squire's old bass if he no longer owns it.
I still know the serial number. Just waiting for it to reappear. Strange how many 21 fret basses have been in Europe.

I believe John Hall said on the Rickenbacker.com forum that 60% of Rickenbackers go to Europe. So it wouldn't surprise me if they had the most of any particular model.

That why it doesn't make sense someone complaining he cant get a Ric,in Europe.

Actually, I said we're coming up close on 60% export, not just Europe. I'll add here that of that 60%, the U.K. & Ireland takes about 35%, rest of Europe about 30%, Japan about 25%, rest to all others.

We had been artificially holding exports down to about 45% until perhaps a year or so ago in order to better serve the home market, but that just ended up starving out the many regions of the world almost completely. Even though it's an easier business to sell a lot to a few customers, we prefer that we do a little everywhere which will make it easier to go back in when we have more production capacity.

In actuality, most of the business we did with Guitar Center is now diverted to export, not by any plan, but just because of who had what on order.

Has anyone bought one of these Rics already?

In a week I'm going to check out a '77 red Rickenbacker 4001 and maybe i will buy it. Could anyone give me some tips where i should pay attention too? And where to look at, to know it's not a copy?
Thanks!

Ken:
Yes, my two 1970 (August & November) 21 fret 4001s have the Rick-O-Sound facility.

Philip:
Can you post pictures of this '77 4001?

No, i can't. Some guy who lives also in Holland, told me he has a Rickenbacker 4001 for sale, because he doesn't play it much anymore, because he prefers the piano. He didn't know what to ask for it, so now if its a real one,it would be a good deal. But he lives 3 hours away from me, so if Im gonna try it i will buy it or not. But he did gave me a serial. So where to look at, to find out if its a copy or not?
