Hey Y'all

Hope you don't mind me crashing the party. I thought I'd post a pic of the 4004LK that I took delivery of on 10/15 of this year.

It's interesting to see the variations in carving that exist as people post pix of their instruments.

For sh*%s and giggles: my user name is the amount of time I waited to take delivery of this bass. I'll post a jpeg of my original deposit receipt sometime down the line.(For the record, it was worth the wait. Thanks JH!)

Cheers all!

Bob......that looks excellent! Great family portrait as well. You can definitely see the difference in the carving details between mine and the newer ones. The more recent ones look a little more 3 dimensional and "flowing". Very cool!

Joe.....I thought I waited a long time (4.5-ish years).....9 2/3rds years sheez!. Congrats on finally getting it and welcome to the Forum!

I've seen pictures of fancy basses, then in person, they don't look like much.

The LK does not dissapoint in person. It's definately an all time award winning design.

Hey guys

Thanks for the warm greetings to the forum. Great photos and posts.

I'll tell ya, a lot has happened in 9.66 years. A quick recap: law degree, +40lbs, my cousin vinny-like bar attempts...D'oh!

Seriously though, I might have had the first 4004lk on order back in February 1996. Motorhead played the house of blues on sunset on February 14 1996 which was my first sighting of the 4004lk. About 10 days later, my order was placed.

Unfortunately Rickenbacker cancelled all of the backorders I think in either 2000 or 2001. I had to get back in line so to speak. I've got all the documentation from my dealer.

It's been a long trip but it sure feels like it was worth it.

Anyone else have a funny 4004lk story?

Thanks all and cheers!

Joe

Nothing funny for me. I was watching the Ric site pretty regularly after they announced that they were making a Lemmy signature model and the site always said something like "coming soon" or "pending". Then all of a sudden without fanfare it had a release date (or said something about being able to place orders). I forget some of the details since it was so long ago but as soon as I saw that I contacted Mike Parks and placed my order. I had tried placing an order earlier but was told that they weren't accepting them yet.

I almost didn't order one since the first pictures I saw of it weren't too clear and I thought it looked kind of cheesy. But I was/am a Motorhead fan and already had a few Rics so I figured I might as well order it......I could always sell it if I didn't like it. My girlfriend at the time (now my wife) actually insisted that I order it since she knew I'd kick myself later if I didn't. My only regret is not ordering two (and not marrying my wife sooner).

When I began seeing better pics of the LK it grew on more and more and I couldn't be happier with mine.....looks, playability and tone....simply fantastic

BTW....I have an extra one of these straps for a good deal if any of the "newer" LK owners are interested......

I waited about, 0.5 seconds, then I hit the 'buy' button.

Then I had to wait a few days for delivery.

Damn.

My story does not have a happy ending, as Brian’s did, (yet).

I placed an order with a guitar shop in Kansas, back in 1999. Sometime after the order was placed, the guitar shop lost their dealership with RIC.

They sent my money back, but gave no info about how to re-order the LK. At that point, the edition was completed (as far as orders being taken). I thought that I just had to accept the fact that I was not going to get one.

Knowing what I know now, I should have called RIC’s customer service to ask for help.

Oh well, I’m only 5 years too late for that now.

I WILL get one, however I didn't think that I would have to sell a kidney. Image

Ken, I refuse to pay over $7K.

I think when the other 30 come out, the prices will drop... I hope...
