Well I'm using steel rounds now.. warwick strings... cheapest ones i could get around here. I like nickle stings a little more.. they don't destroy my fingers.

Hey... should I find a GL signature and do a CS esque pickguard? Having Geddy's name on the guard for the promo shots (Promo as in first finished appearance on the forum) and a normal guard for playing out?

"i think all basses secretlee wanna be fretless..."
I turned a Telecaster Bass, a Yamaha BX-5 and an Alembic Exploiter into fretless basses before I stared buying ready made fretless basses. I recall hearing cries of joy from them at being freed at last!

You changed an Alembic from stock? BLASPHEMY!!! Just kidding . . . I'm sure if I learned to play fretless, I'd love it too. And the Exploiter is, in my opinion, the best-looking Alembic out there.

I also changed the electronics on the Alembic!
I don't have it any more, it and the Persuader I had went to finance my first Zon, a '97 Sonus Special 5 string fretless.
I do like the new Warwick Stryker, looks just like the Exploiter.

Best of both worlds...

Oooh, nice Ric and Alembic. They go so well together!
As I've probably said before, I have an incredibly low opinion of Warwick basses, for a variety of reasons.

What's wrong with Warwick's? I don't like the super deep sound.

I played a friend's Warwick Fortress 5-string, and it was a nice bass. Not Ricky at all, but it sounded and played well.

I've always thought the thumb basses were ugly as sin.. and when they got to the 6 sting models.. those necks are WIDE!

I have tried to play a few warwicks for kicks and I despised them. Tiny body combined with a huge neck made it feel terrible. Give me a ric or a jazz anyday...

I also changed the electronics on the Alembic!
Oh man.. what's the point of having an Alembic then? The only reason I would want an Alembic is for that sound! I tried to make my 4001 sound like an Alembic back in the day.
Regarding Warwicks... I hate that bassball bat neck. And wenge is an ugly wood, IMO.
I took a Hondo II P-bass clone someone gave me, and made it a lined fretless. It had a maple neck. I added a J bridge PU and a kahler whammy bar. It was a cool bass!
I'm actually selling off the parts from it on eBay at the moment! Anyone want a whammy bar?
