I won't be keeping it up, Brian. No more guitars until I hit the northern hemisphere. Unless, of course, an absolute bargain jumps up and bites me on the bum! Fat chance of that, eh??

It is a nice FG - Greg and I compared our 360s the other night and they are pretty much the same. Interestingly, the relative positioning of the pickguards on the guitar is remarkably different!

Greg: Are you able to take a shot of yours? If not, then if you are available next Wednesday evening (around 5.30), I can drop in with my guitar and camera. I think the members might be very interested to see the huge difference.

The source of the quotation marks in the preceding sentence is my wife Penny. It would seem that it is her favourite expression these days. Except just recently I have been able to say "No, not another guitar. Another Rickenbacker"

Wow. What a story. It solves another mystery too, where I mentioned in another thread that it was strange how your guitar arrived but none were shown as being recently delivered to the Aus distributor on the Ric site.

One thing I'm not sure of though (unless I missed it somewhere here)...

Did your Melbourne dealer purchase the guitar directly from the Qld dealer (or it's liquidators) when it went bust? Or did the distributer reclaim the stock and send it to other dealers (including your 360 to your Melbourne dealer)? If your dealer bought it directly from the QLD dealer then the distributer shouldn't have any case to answer, but they are taking a bit of heat in this thread so I can only assume that they reclaimed the stock and passed it on to other dealers.

If your dealer did buy it directly from the QLD dealer then they were initially trying to get away with making a huge profit at your expense... buying old stock cheaply and selling it for full price or near to full price to you. Then when "your" specially ordered 360 eventually arrived someone else would have got a brand-newie, also at full price.

If it came to your dealership via the distributor then maybe your dealer was the victim, with the possibility that the distributor was selling old stock to your dealer at their usual new-stock price.

A third possibility is that the distributor might have passed on the cheap reclaimed stock to your dealer honestly at a cheap price, and your dealer was trying to take advantage of you by reselling it full price as brand new. That could explain the dealer bending over backwards to keep you on-side when you confronted them.

No matter what the chain of events were though, I'm really happy for you that all has been sorted to your total satisfaction.

Reading your story, I realised how lucky I was during the week. I found a Ric 340 in stock at a dealer in Brisbane last week. It had the "new" price on the sticker, but after asking the dealer what his best price would be he was honest enough to admit straight up that, like yours, the guitar had a bit of a history. He offered me a sizeable discount, no haggling necessary. As far as my new guitar's story goes, I'll give you the run-down on a new thread during the weekend after I take a couple of pics. I had it freighted early this week to my parents' house, and when I arrived home from Brisbane just a couple of hours ago the first thing I did was collect it, unpack it and have a play. Needless to say, I love it already!

Reading the whole story it has a good out come Way to go Howard,me I would have flown off the handle you handled it very respectfully.

The guitar was technically a floor model[Demo] and must be sold as such whether it be a car or guitar.

As for Jodie Moore she can play with anything she wants of mine anytime she likes.

I have no idea who the woman in question is, but Ken I take it she must be very special if you are prepared to let her have full reign of your instruments.

I've always said it's too bad that guitars don't have odometers or Hobbs meters.

I can only assume it is the Jodie Moore. The kind of girl your mother always wanted you to bring home, but more likely one your father would have preferred.

Carl: The stock in the store was siezed by the liquidators and stored for a year or so while a drawn out legal bunfight took place. The stock was then released. I don't know whether the distributor got it back because they were an unsecured creditor (ie. they hadn't been paid for it), whether it was offered to them at a price or they bought it back at a liquidator's auction.

The distributor then offered the stock to Rick dealers - whether it was at normal or reduced price, I have no idea.

My concerns were:

1) I wasn't told the age of the guitar or it's history before I paid the balance owing.
2) What environment it had been stored in.

Anyway, it's all over and both the dealer and I are happy with the result.

I assumed she was a musician I hadn't heard of yet, so I Googled her (so to speak...), found her website, and got the WARNING from my University's ITY Department--ACCESS DENIED, CATEGORY whatever...GENERAL PORNOGRAPHY.

Oops. So I still don't know what she, er, LOOKS like.

The same sort of thing happened to me Paul as I have a firewall that filters out undesirable content. So I decided not to pursue any interest in understanding who she is and what she looks like.
