Better luck on the next one.
Your refin will look much nicer than that one anyway.

I'm so sorry I couldn't get this one for Dave. You see this was not an auction, the price was set and the first one to call would get it. When I called the seller, he had two other potential buyers on his list. I kick myself for not being swifter on this one.
A propos lurkers: I think we must consider this forum as WIDE OPEN! In this case the seller expected my call because he had seen this very thread. He was not a Rickenbacker "freak", he was merely checking the price level on his guitar, did a google on "Rickenbacker 4080" and: of course! directly to this site!

Again I'm sorry. However, this week I myself scored, I'll be back with more info!!!

To bad Dave. I also talked to the owner. He was not a rickman as Lars said. He described the 4080 as a dinosaur, and couldn´t belive that anyone was interested in this huge thing hehe. Way to big for him, but a piece of art for others.

Can I ask just exactly what the etiquette is here regarding these?

I have need for a 4080/12 in particular, although I would settle for a 4080 if one came up. These are required in both my bands (one a tribute & one all original material). I see that Dave Pascoe collects them (already has at least 3 or 4 - lovely collection!), but every time one appears, it seems that Dave has first rights on it. It's hard to watch this as someone who has none, but has need as it were (you should see the awful thing I have to use at the moment).

I don't wish to cause offence, I'm just trying to understand what the protocol is here?

Thanks

Jon

Jon, as far as me being a "4080 hog", not really true.

Any open sale is fair game. In this case, I was just happy to see good people like Lars and Frode willing to help out.

Even on auctions, a forum member just need to ask me, and I'll usually stand down. I don't think anyone here can say I beat them to the punch on anything.

My opinion was that most people here really don't want to pay top dollars for these old beast. (except for Kevin)Image

Dave, I really appreciate you clearing that up. I wasn't accusing you of being a '4080 hog', perhaps I didn't choose quite the correct words.

However, I'm afraid you can add me to the list of people prepared to pay for these, although I will stop at one 6 and one 12 (if I ever get started) and I don't even care what the finish is.

Cheers

Jon, forget forum etiquette... when it comes to Rics we'll stop at nothing to get them, even if it means stepping on eachother's toes. Doesn't mean to say we don't help eachother out once in a while, though.

Welcome to the forum.Image

And Dave is a 4080 hog.

I think Dave has 1/10th of the total 4080 production. Image

Steve, we may never know the production numbers. I think that they made closer to 200.

Yeah, Dave needs at least a dozen more to really corner the market Image
I didn't think I paid top dollar. They seem to fetch more than I paid when they do become available.
It doesn't matter to me anyway, I bought mine 'cause I've wanted one from the first day I saw one back in '81 or '82.
It's only money (credit) anyway. I'm only ever gonna have one & I never thought I'd ever have that one, & if Dave or anyone else on this forum wants more, well then there's no better bunch of guys & gals who deserve them more.
I wouldn't mind a 4002 though Image
