Ken, the idea is you get a third 4005, trading me one of your other goodies...then you could be the 4005 king, just as Dave is the 4080 king...
Chris... uhh... Chris... stop running away... get back here with that 4002....

I never did try green magic marker on the edges of my CDs. I recently went to an estate sale of a gent who was heavily into classical music, and I'll be darned if every one of the CDs his family had for sale didn't have the green edge.
I've tried it. I can't say I heard any difference at all.
The crazy thing is the $100 1 once bottle of lacquer that they paint on every thing from speakers to phono cartridges with the supposition that it will improve the sound! Or the $600 wooden knobs for your amp. Nuts! Let's just throw all science and logic out the window!
Back to the bass.... I'd refret it. I refretted my 4001's when they needed it. I left the finish on the board... just scored around the fret before I removed it. I went with somewhat larger replacement fret wire which covered up any scars in the finish.
On another bass I sprayed acrylic lacquer over the frets.
