Might just be the fuzzy picture, but it looks like it has binding to me. Very Cool!

I can see binding on it, the pics not too clear but it's there...that's a nice bass Jon!

High gains started to appear on 4001s in '68...

I have high gains on my '68 4000, but the longer old style ring.

I used to one three of the basses in the "Slog" photo.
The 60 4000 , the 65 4000, and the 67 4005, all to the left of the 4005/8.
I still have a copy of the photo....
Man, the 60 4000FG laying down was SWEET!; wish I'd owned that one!

My 68 had a horseshoe in it along with checkered binding and all the goodies.

The photo of the bass just sucks when I lowered the resolution of it to fit on this site. You can clearly see the details of the bass in the higher res photo.

that is a white 4003s5 that I put vinyl auto pinstriping on ... a reversable mod ... I got the idea from the 4002 headstock ...
